Event Description

Motus Theater Presents:

Sharing our Stories: Mexican Immigrants in Life, Media and Myth

Join us for an afternoon of autobiographical monologues written and performed by immigrants from Mexico and DACA students from our community. These monologues have been drawn from Motus Theater’s SALSA Lotería performance project that explores the resilience of Latina immigrants, and from Motus Theater’s award-winning Do You Know Who I Am? performance exploring the obstacles facing undocumented youth. Between each monologue Dr. Arturo Aldama (Associate Chair of Ethnic Studies) will offer facts about the assets immigrants bring to our community, address the ramifications of President Trump’s executive actions, and will challenge media stereotypes of Mexican immigrants.
Monologue Artists include: Ana Casas, Victor Galvan, Elena Aranda, Oscar Juarez, and Teresita Lozano.
When: Monday Feb.20th 3:30-5pm
Where: Old Main Theatre (Campus to locate: Old Main:
Cost: Free
Sponsors: Program for Writing and Rhetoric, Department of Ethnic Studies, KGNU, Programa Compañeras of El Centro Amistad; with special thanks to ODECE (Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement); SALSA Lotería and Do You Know Who I Am? performers; and Motus Theater funders.

About the Organizers

We choose Feb 20th to do this performance at CU because we are very concerned about the executive actions on immigration and the slandering of Mexican Americans (both documented and undocumented in our country). We post this in solidarity with the other artists doing performances on Not My President's Day. Together we will move forward equity and justice.
